It's actually on Fayette St., not High St. It's connected to Pita Pit. It has an awning and a folding sign in the street.
8pm indeed
This quaint little Japanese restaurant is off the beaten path but well worth it!
Excellent food and service :) stopped in on our way through Morgantown and couldn't have been happier we found this place. Will be back next time we are in town!
Very, very good Ramen! Worth the price as you get a lot of food. I almost didnt finish mine!
Amazing and unique. Not a taste for everyone, so read up before going. If you love Japanese or Asian foods, you'll love this place.
Went around 530pm on a Thursday so it wasnt too busy at the time or ordering/sitting down. Ordering was straightforward as menu is laid out well and easy to follow.By the time we finished at 630, it was a little busy with all tables filled up. I tried their Soba noodles bowl topped with veggie tempura accompanied by a hot tea. Also got a dessert (Sasodango -red bean paste wrapped in bamboo leaf) to finish off the meal. Im not experienced eating soba noodles with chopstick but managed to finish it without any disasters haha. Tasty and just correctly flavored! 100% would go again.
This is a hidden little secret in Morgantown that sadly most locals don't know exists. Awesome food and the friendliest service in town for sure. This Japanese restaurant is very small and tucked away downtown. Probably only 8 to 10 tables. Excellent food. And the owner "yama" always says thank you to every customer as you depart. ( he yells it from the kitchen) ..a real gem if you like Japanese food. Highly recommend!
I know nothing of Japanese cuisine so I’m not going to try and compare this to any other place I’ve ever been. All I know is I’ve been eating here about once a month or more for... I’m guessing 15 years or maybe longer. I love it!! It’s not very big but it has a lot of repeat customers. I see a lot of the same faces. That tells you something about the place. I can’t say I’ve ever had a bad experience at Yamas. It’s not the place I’d take mom and dad when they are in town because they wouldn’t get it. But it’s the first place me and my friends speak of when we decide to go out to eat.
I’ve went here only about 4 times, and the workers are fantastic and the food is wonderful. Honestly my favorite restaurant in Morgantown and I hope it garners more attention.
The most authentic and delicious noodles you will ever eat in a Tri-state area at least. Friendly, fun atmosphere... not to be missed.
Authentic Japanese Restaurant, Authentic Food-Polite, Friendly Atmosphere. Best Ramen I've ever had, Takoyaki was delicious. Shoyu is recommended. Next visit we will come at dinner and try their Sukiyaki!
Loved this place. I got a lot of food with my aunt because I didn’t know that the portions were so big. I was very pleasantly surprised. Very yummy and the staff is amazing. Definitely coming back.
I have been going to Yamas for 20 years and I am never disappointed. Great food and great people!
The food was delicious! The staff and chef were so nice and so inviting. It was a pleasure to eat there and will definitely eat there again.
This "hidden" gem is worth finding! They serve authentic Japanese cuisine in a cozy, tidy and welcoming environment. The prices are more than reasonable and the employees go out of their way to make sure you are satisfied with your experience. Many items on their menu are vegetarian/vegan or have the option to make them so. Either take out or eat in I can guarantee you will not be disappointed!
Such tasty Japanese cuisine, in a relaxed homely feeling setting. And now that they accept debt cards I go far more often then I should
Wonderful ramen and gyoza! Not a lot of seating but I see why they are always busy! Yum!
Went there by seeing google rating and it was a mistake! I can't believe the boiled the chicken with some salt and served it as 'teriyaki chicken'. My homemade teriyaki chicken tastes far far better than their's. Never gonna return there as well as not recommending anyone. Waste of time, waste of money. Their serving size is also not okay.
The staff here are very friendly and helpful and the food was delicious! They explain what is in each dish and make sure it is to your liking.
Really good sushi. Probably one of the most genuine sushi restaurants in Morgantown. A pleasant and unexpected surprise. Great for lunch.
This place has the freshest and best tasting Japanese food I've found. Their prices are very reasonable and one of the fun things is you can watch Japanese TV while you eat. They have been specific hours so I'd check if you aren't going exactly at dinner or lunch times.
I love this place been coming here for 13yrs wish I could come more often.
Family style Japanese cruise, all staff are japanese. Menu is simple and hospitality is great. Good option if you enjoy athentic Japanese cruise in this town.
Cute little Japanese restaurant. Very authentic! The staff is extremely friendly and the food is amazing. You won't regret going.
Delicious food and incredibly lovely and friendly staff. If I was in town for more than one night I would definitely go back!
The most authentic, and one of the best Japanese restaurants I have been to on the eastern side of the U.S.
Great ramen place in Morgantown. Limited menu but that's how you know it's good.
Excellent! Perhaps just a little tiny bit pricy, but great food. Here's what you need to know: Google Maps claims it's on High Street, when in fact it's on Fayette Street. Very, very unpretentious signage and decor, but why did you come---to eat great food.
Less than friendly and less than great tempura... We arrived at 1pm for lunch, and the place was very busy. This is no excuse for being unfriendly to brand new customers. The 30 seconds it takes to be friendly and courteous to a group of brand new customers saves a lot of grief later. Why would I be compelled to give a three star rating if the service had been polite and good? While I'd agree that Japanese food prepared by Japanese people should be way above average, the tempura I received was soggy and not even very warm. I really expected more after all the amazing reviews.
A very good Japanese restaurant. There are lot of restaurants that offer Japanese cuisine is US, but few of them are managed by Japanese. This restaurant is managed by Japanese owner and you can enjoy truly authentic Japanese dishes. This is not so much luxury or exclusive restaurant as one for common people, and you can enjoy Japanese common people's dishes here. Ramen is my recommendation. Ramen they offer is on the same level with that of Japan's popular Ramen restanrants.
I have been driving past this place for years and finally gave it a shot and I’m so glad I did. If you want to try authentic Japanese cuisine, this is the place to do it. I tried the spicy tuna sushi roll, the shrimp dumplings, and the udon noodles. It was all delicious. If you like spice, add the red pepper on the table to your noodles. I can’t wait to come back and try other things!
Yama delivers truly authentic Japanese food from the don bowls to the udon/ramen. If you are looking for Japanese food in Morgantown, this is definitely the place you should be going to. Every other Japanese restaurant in the city just falls in comparison.
They make great food and they remember you everytime you come in.
The California roll was good and so was the miso soup. I was hoping for more sushi options. Friendly staff, and try the soda they got ðŸ‘ðŸ¼
Oh, how I love Yama! I spent a month in Japan once and I always recapture that experience here. Great, authentic food.
I always enjoy eating at Yama's. The food is great, and the people are nice
Delcious food and cozy atmosphere
Great service. They are very friendly. Foods are also great. They don't have a lot of option though. Very neat and clean, spacious.
The only thing missing here are the tatami mats. This is a truly authentic Japanese restaurant. Don’t let the store front fool you! The food is delicious!
The people are super sweet and the food is amazing I had curry and miso ramen was so good. Would definitely go back friendly atmosphere as well.
Best Japanese food in Morgantown! The place is great, I go there whenever I can! It's exactly like a ramen shop you would find in Japan, and make no mistake, this is NOT a sushi restaurant they have sushi on the menu however this is a ramen shop.
This place is a must if you want to have amazing Japanese food. The place is warm and comftorble to wander into on a cold day and relax with some yummy yakitori soba. Gyoza are fantastic
Really close to Japan authentic flavor and awesome client service!
Yama is the culinary backbone of Morgantown. It's a little hole in the wall restaurant tucked away right off high street, serving the best authentic Japanese food you'll find in all of WV.
Yama was YUM! Real deal, w Japanese comics, stuff lining the walls. Great Ramen. Fresh 🣠- I had California roll. Super nice service -6 stars out of 5!
This is one of my favorite places to eat lunch or dinner, when I visit Morgantown. The food is REAL Japanese food , and oichi!
The food here was magnificent. I tried a Japanese restaurant in Walt Disney World last year, since Disney is known for its delicious and authentic food, and this restaurant gave them a run for their money. They are cheaper and just as good. 10/10 I definitely recommend going here if you love good food and if you want a traditional Japanese eating experience. Even though there is not much decor in the restaurant, it still feels traditional, like everything was hand selected and placed with a lot of thought and effort.
Not worth the price they charge. Their ramen contains one piece of meat and one piece of fish cake... for over $8. I can get double what they offer in NYC for the same price. Nothing more than mediocre and nothing special about the food they serve to be charging at such ridiculous price.
Had an authentic home-cooked Japanese meal. The Miso Ramen was delicious. The young man serving was helpful and patient. Will definitely stop by to eat when I'm next in Morgantown.
It is a small cozy place to eat with friends and enjoy delicious authentic Japanese cuisine. Went there for the first time today with friends. It was warm and inviting. The staff was so kind and helpful. Enjoyed every bite definitely going back again. Such a great place.
Wonderful food , friendly , great service!
